Wineglass Bay from Mt Amos
In terms of classic Tasmanian views, Wineglass Bay from Mt Amos really is one of the big ones. At 60-90 minutes one way it is a reasonably short hike, but the slippery and rocky route over granite boulders and gullies makes it a much more significant hike than the very easy (by comparison) walk up to the lookout.
I caught some really nice morning light up Mt Amos one morning many years ago, and a couple of weeks ago had another go.
We started out well before sunrise in complete darkness. As the sky was clear, the pre-dawn twilight kicked in part way up and by the time we reached the top it was quite bright despite sunrise not due for another 30-40 minutes.
There is a nice rock basically right at the top of the trail which is where I shot last time, so this time I scampered around a little to find a different foreground. This shot with the delicate pre-dawn colours still in the sky is my favourite from the morning, with a yellow hue to the east and the pink and blue “belt of venus” in the west.
Once the sun popped up I tried out a few other compositions, the very last one being the same as I had done years before.
Magnificent way to start a day!
