Mycena dancer

This tiny little mycena dancer fungi bug was having a grand ol’ time on a Pixies Parasol in the Styx Valley when we visited a few months ago.

This is the full view – an enchanting little group of Pixies Parasols, aka Mycena interrupta, caught our eye in the Styx Valley back in May so first things first, we took a few shots of the fungi growing out of the hollow in the fallen wood.

The closer you look…

A theme I mention in the fungi chapter of my new book, Timeless Tasmania, is that the closer you look, the more you see – and this situation illustrates that very nicely. I could have been perfectly satisfied with a couple of nice fungi shots, but while focusing with the live view magnified, I saw the movement of a little bug waving its antenna around.

Extreme close up! A phone video of a magnified live view of the tiny little Mycena Dancer doing his thing 🙂

So as well as the wider scene, I shot a few close ups and managed to capture the little guy living his best life in the fascinating macro world he calls home.

It’s always good to go slow in the forest, and to make sure to look twice at all the little things that catch your eye – you never know what you night find, including a tiny little mycena dancer like this!
